WELSH HISTORY RE-CREATED IN THE NOBLE SETTING OF HARLECH

WELSH HISTORY RE-CREATED IN THE NOBLE SETTING OF HARLECH

The Harlech Castle historical pageant was held in August 1927 within the walls of the ancient Merionethshire keep. This grim fortress was the scene of many historical events, and the episodes represented were among the most dramatic of these. The photograph shows a scene from the episode entitled "Margaret of Anjou," during the Wars of the Roses. She was the consort of Henry VI, and found a safe refuge in the castle along with her son, Prince Edward, after her husband's defeat at Northampton in 1460. Both queen and prince are being welcomed by their loyal subjects. The costumes of soldiers, heralds and the other actors in the pageant were faithful reproductions of the period represented.
