STIRRING EPISODE IN NORWICH'S HISTORICAL PAGEANT

STIRRING EPISODE IN NORWICH'S HISTORICAL PAGEANT

A four-day historical pageant took place at Norwich in July 1926, when eleven episodes depicting the story of the ancient city were enacted by over a thousand people. Among the scenes depicted were the founding of the cathedral in 1096 and the famous Norman incident pictured above. Here we see Emma de Gauder, wife of Ralph de Gauder, about to surrender Norwich Castle to Sir Roger Bigot, Earl pi Norfolk. The latter was endowed with the forfeited estates of Ralph, whose downfall took place in 1074.
