DOWN INTO BATTLE AND ONWARDS TO HOLMHURST

DOWN INTO BATTLE AND ONWARDS TO HOLMHURST

From Lamberhurst we continue southward through Robertsbridge to Battle (bottom). Here there is a market where you may see some fine shorthorns changing hands, but, otherwise, Battle's reputation has always depended on William the Conqueror, who founded the great abbey here. On goes the road towards Hastings, over Telham Hill, and so by Starr's Green to Holmhurst, where is the statue of Queen Anne (top), removed from the front of S. Paul's Cathedral to make way for a new replica in 1893.
