OUR JOURNEY'S END: HASTINGS FROM THE EAST HILL

OUR JOURNEY'S END: HASTINGS FROM THE EAST HILL

Deep set in a vale between two heights - East Hill and the Castle Hill - the old town at Hastings shows a mass of red roofs. This is the old Cinque Port, and still contrives to preserve its identity despite the comparative hugeness of new Hastings, the modern seaside resort. From our vantage point we can observe the castle and far below and beyond the two piers and the long curve of Pevensey Bay - where William and his Normans landed - towards Eastbourne.
