A PARISH PUMP OF OLD LONDON AT ALDGATE

A PARISH PUMP OF OLD LONDON AT ALDGATE

There was once a spring of water, called S. Michael's Well, near the site of the present Aldgate Pump. About the latter part of the sixteenth century the well seems to have been turned into a pump. It continued thus, the water being considered exceptionally good, till 1856, when the well was filled in. In 1908 water was laid on again.
