SOUTH FRONT OF THE GUILDHALL OF THE LONDON CORPORATION

SOUTH FRONT OF THE GUILDHALL OF THE LONDON CORPORATION

This frontage, in Guildhall Yard, was restored by the younger George Dance, in 1789, and complete restoration of the building was carried out in 1864 under Sir Horace Jones, when the metal spire was added. The roof it crowns belongs to the Great Hall. The original Hall perished in the Great Fire, but the present roof was remodelled after the original pattern. Parts of the porch which are seen here survived the Fire. In the Guildhall the principal ceremonies of the City Corporation take place.
