RUIN THAT WAS ONCE A RESIDENCE OF MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS

RUIN THAT WAS ONCE A RESIDENCE OF MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS

From 1547-48 Mary Queen of Scots had her residence in this priory, which is situated on an island called Inchmahome in the Lake of Menteith, Perthshire. This sheet of water is, incidentally, the only one in Scotland to which the name " Jake " is given. It lies in the south-west of the county and is about seventeen miles north-west from Stirling. The lake is about a mile and a half long and a mile wide. There are three other islands, on one of which stands the ruined castle of the lords of Menteith.
