THE KING'S CAVES AND TALL GOAT FELL ON ARRAN

THE KING'S CAVES AND TALL GOAT FELL ON ARRAN

Between the Ayrshire coast and the Mull of Kintyre the mountainous island of Arran rises out of the sea. It is twenty miles long and about ten across, and as one comes to it on the boat from Greenock or Ardrossan it stands up like a mountain from the horizon. On the west coast, two miles along the foreshore from Blackwatcr Foot, are the King's Caves (bottom), said to have been occupied by Bruce. On the walls rough pictures of hunting are carved, but their origin is uncertain. Goat Fell (top) is the highest peak in the island and is 2,866 feet high
