THE ROAD THROUGH DENVER AND AN ALMOST DUTCH SCENE ON THE OUSE

THE ROAD THROUGH DENVER AND AN ALMOST DUTCH SCENE ON THE OUSE

After Ely, the road runs on to Littleport, where it meets the river Ouse (top) and follows it, crossing the Cambridgeshire-Norfolk boundary. The river here is very like a canal, with straight high banks, or, rather, embankments, whose level is above that of the country on either side. We can see the tops of buildings appearing above it, and the windmill completes a scene which might well have been found in Holland. Indeed, Dutch engineers had much to do with the draining; of this part of the country. And so we reach Denver (bottom).
