AN AVENUE AT DENTON, NEAR BURLEY, AND ADEL CRAGS ON THE MOOR

AN AVENUE AT DENTON, NEAR BURLEY, AND ADEL CRAGS ON THE MOOR

Denton Park (bottom), on the Wharfe near Burley, is famous as the birthplace of Lord Fairfax, the Parliamentary general in the Civil War; and the avenue shown in the photograph is a highly attractive feature of this neighbourhood. Only some three miles from the centre of Leeds, going northwards, is Adel Crags (top), a desolately beautiful spot on the moorland. Adel village contains another attraction for those who would visit it, in a small but perfect Norman church containing some interesting sculptures on the chancel arch.
