FAMOUS CRAGS AT ILKLEY AND OTLEY, AND ILKLEY'S SAXON CROSSES

FAMOUS CRAGS AT ILKLEY AND OTLEY, AND ILKLEY'S SAXON CROSSES

One mile south-east of Ilkley stand the Cow and Calf Rocks, the former of which is here reproduced (bottom left). The three Saxon crosses outside the parish church of All Saints Ilkley (bottom right), swell the handsome list of antiquities preserved in this picturesque and healthful Yorkshire town. The tallest and most perfect of these is inscribed with figures, believed to represent the Evangelists, but with symbols for heads. All Saints' itself is mainly Perpendicular in style. Otley also boasts its famous crag in the Frying Pan Rock (top).
