THE CRIMEAN MONUMENT, IN HONOUR OF THE GUARDS, IN WATERLOO PLACE

Placed at the junction of Pall Mall and Waterloo Place, the Crimean monument erected in honour of the Guards is one of the most imposing in London. The statues of Florence Nightingale, the devoted " Lady of the Lamp," and Sidney Herbert, War Minister of her time, who was her ablest and most enthusiastic coadjutor at home, were added later, thus making an impressive group of statuary. The Nightingale statue stands west of the Crimean monument, and that of Herbert on the east side.
