THE HARRIS LIBRARY AND ART GALLERY, PRESTON, AND ALBERT SQUARE MANCHESTER

THE HARRIS LIBRARY AND ART GALLERY, PRESTON, AND ALBERT SQUARE MANCHESTER

The Harris Free Public Library and Museum (bottom), in which Preston's Art Gallery is housed, is one of the handsome public buildings in the market place. It was built from the design of James Hibbert in 1893. Albert Square, in Central Manchester (top), is veritably a place of Victorian memories. Not only is there a statue of the Prince Consort here, but also the Albert Memorial Hall, the headquarters of Manchester Nonconformity; whilst statues of Gladstone and John Bright, Bishop Fraser and Oliver Heywood make up the company of effigies
