THE LIFEBOAT HOUSE AND WINDMILL AT LYTHAM ON THE RIBBLE ESTUARY

THE LIFEBOAT HOUSE AND WINDMILL AT LYTHAM ON THE RIBBLE ESTUARY

Lytham St. Anne's stands on the north side of the Ribble estuary. Compared with Blackpool it is an oasis of quietude which appeals to a different class of visitor. The lifeboat house and old windmill shown in the photograph are on the edge of a wide stretch of grass known as the Green, which is part of Lytham's promenade. Once there was a Benedictine priory at Lytham, but no trace of it remains. Like Blackpool, the place began to grow in the later eighteenth century.
