KNUTSFORD UNITARIAN CHAPEL, AND THE GRAVEYARD WHERE MRS. GASKELL LIES BURIED

KNUTSFORD UNITARIAN CHAPEL, AND THE GRAVEYARD WHERE MRS. GASKELL LIES BURIED

Knutsford in Cheshire has become famous through literature, for it was the "Cranford" of Mrs. Gaskell's novel, and the authoress herself passed her early childhood here, at the house of her aunt on the heath; and returned here to die. Doubtless the kindly Miss Mattie and other "Cranford" characters were drawn from the Knutsford folk of her day. To the right of the Unitarian Chapel is seen the cross which marks her grave. There is also a medallion portrait of her on the wall of the post office.
