MILLPORT, ON CUMBRAE ISLAND: LOOKING TOWARDS ARRAN

Not far from the western coast and opposite Largs and Fairlie lie Great and Little Cumbrae Islands. Millport is the principal town of the former. This summer resort stretches about two miles along a bay that faces south. The photograph shows its aspect looking towards distant Arran. The sparkling freshness of the sea suggests a bracing climate, and it is claimed that Millport not only possesses this, but is also warmer and drier than many of the adjacent mainland districts. Great Cumbrae is about four miles long from north to south.
