ROTHESAY ON SWEET ROTHESAY BAY: THE CAPITAL OF BUTESHIRE AND A ROYAL BURGH

ROTHESAY ON SWEET ROTHESAY BAY: THE CAPITAL OF BUTESHIRE AND A ROYAL BURGH

Rothesay has been a royal burgh since the end of the fourteenth century, and its peculiar distinction is that the dukedom which King Robert III created for his son has ever since been held by the Prince of Wales. The photograph, which was taken from Chapel Hill, shows e stone-built town clustered round the shores of the bay, which the authoress of "John Halifax, Gentleman" celebrated on a song "Sweet Rothesay Bay." Old Rothesay Castle is a somewhat inconspicuous ruin in the old part of the town.
