OFFA'S DYKE WHERE IT EMERGES IN CHIRK PARK, DENBIGHSHIRE

OFFA'S DYKE WHERE IT EMERGES IN CHIRK PARK, DENBIGHSHIRE

As at Ruabon, so at Chirk near by the researches of the Office of Works have established the identity of a section of Offa's Dyke. It is the bank seen on the left of the photograph. The site is in the park of Chirk Castle and is close to a lake. One may note that in Wynstay Park, between Chirk and Ruabon, there are well-marked traces of Wat's Dyke, that secondary line of defence that ran a roughly parallel course with Offa's Dyke for some forty miles at the latter's northern end.
