THE REMORSEFUL SPIRIT OF LADY ELIZABETH HOBY AT BISHAM ABBEY IN BERKSHIRE

THE REMORSEFUL SPIRIT OF LADY ELIZABETH HOBY AT BISHAM ABBEY IN BERKSHIRE

In the Tudor mansion Bisham Abbey, near Marlow, Berkshire, there lived in the sixteenth century Sir Thomas Hoby and his wife Elizabeth; the latter's spirit is said to haunt the house. The story is that she was so cruel and unnatural a mother that her child William died at her hands, and ever since remorse has driven her back to the house she denied - to be seen gliding through a certain chamber and endeavouring to rid her hands of the blood upon them.
