THE ARREST OF JACK SHEPPARD IN WILLESDEN CHURCHYARD

THE ARREST OF JACK SHEPPARD IN WILLESDEN CHURCHYARD

Prisons would not hold Jack Sheppard, and it was after one of his several escapes that the notorious thief-catcher Jonathan Wild contrived to arrest him, as shown in the print here reproduced, as he stood at his mother's grave in Willesden churchyard. Wild was in many respects the greater scoundrel, for he was the master-thief as well as Government minion.
