THE REMNANT OF EPPING AND HAINAULT FORESTS: A ROAD NEAR LOVELY HIGH BEECH

THE REMNANT OF EPPING AND HAINAULT FORESTS: A ROAD NEAR LOVELY HIGH BEECH

Since 1882, Epping Forest, together with what remained of Hainault after the depredations upon it by private persons, has been secure as a public playground. The glades of High Beech, near the intersection of the Woodford-Epping and Loughton roads, are generally considered its most beautiful part; the photograph shows an attractive strip of road between High Beech and the Wake Arms Hotel. Once the forests of Epping and Hainault covered nearly the whole county. Part of the Hainault area has been replanted.
