ABBOT DE LA MARE AT S. ALBANS

ABBOT DE LA MARE AT S. ALBANS

The ecclesiastical vestments of the mid-fourteenth century are admirably shown in this brass of Abbot T. de la Mare, preserved in S. Albans Abbey. Round his neck is the amice, a sort of scarf; the big cloak is an elaborately embroidered chasuble; and on his hands are gloves set with jewels on their backs. This brass is of foreign workmanship. Picture from Victoria & Albert Museum.
