Blue Coat Boys in the Cloisters of Christs Hospital, West Horsham

Blue Coat Boys in the Cloisters of Christs Hospital, West Horsham

The Cloisters at Christ's Hospital are as new as the rest of the buildings, but a number of old memorial tablets, including one to James Boyer, who was headmaster in the time of Coleridge and Lamb, have been brought from London for their adornment. The photograph shows a group of boys in their traditional uniform of long blue coats and yellow stockings, and without hat or cap. Such, but in blue velvet instead of cloth, with silver buttons, was the ordinary dress of King Edward VI, the school's founder.
