Big School and Speech Day: the new Dinning Hall and its old Furnishings

Once a year at least big school (bottom) is filled to overflowing; on Speech Day, in June, when the Lord Mayor of London pays his annual visit to the School, and the Head Boy delivers the traditional oration, which is followed by a musical programme. The benches and tables of the dining hall (top) are the ancient ones that were in Newgate Street, and the gigantic picture seen on the right, by Antonio Verrio, commemorates the foundation of the Royal Mathematical School by Charles II.
