Lord Mayor's gift of a Guinea to the Head Boy of Christs Hospital

Lord Mayor's gift of a Guinea to the Head Boy of Christs Hospital

Just as the Lord Mayor of London visits West Horsham on the annual Speech Day, so a number of selected boys from the Hospital come to the Mansion House on S. Matthew's Day every year, when the Head Boy receives from their Host the customary gift of a guinea. For long years there was a close association between the Corporation of London and Christ's Hospital, and now that the school has removed from the City, the preservation of this ancient custom helps to perpetuate it.
