Past the Old Church at Dartford, and Bexley Heath

Past the Old Church at Dartford, and Bexley Heath Just beyond Shooter's Hill the road leaves the county of London and, some six miles farther on, [comes to Dartford, on the southern fringe of the Darcnth marshes. The photograph (bottom) gives a glimpse of the fourteenth century parish church at the east end of the town. It was at Dartford in the sixteenth century that Sir John Spielman built the first paper mill in England; his tomb is in the church. Bexley Heath (top), where the road to Bexley branches off, lies about two miles on the London side.
