THE ARTILLERY MEMORIAL, SET IN THE WHIRL OF A BUSY TRAFFIC CENTRE

THE ARTILLERY MEMORIAL, SET IN THE WHIRL OF A BUSY TRAFFIC CENTRE

Nearly 50,000 men and officers of the Royal Artillery gave up their lives, and the grim and forceful monument which Mr. Lionej Pearson, the architect, and Mr. C. S. Jagger, the sculptor, have combined to produce at Hyde Park Corner in their honour is no more than a fitting tribute to their sacrifice. The lower photograph shows the memorial looking towards St. George's Hospital, and the upper towards Piccadilly. If its position leaves something to be desired, the memorial itself is as clamant as the work of the gunners it commemorates.
