BLAIR CASTLE, SEAT OF THE ATHOLLS, AND BEMERSYDE OF THE HAIGS

BLAIR CASTLE, SEAT OF THE ATHOLLS, AND BEMERSYDE OF THE HAIGS

Looking down upon the rushing stream of the Garry in a Grampian pass, Blair Castle (bottom), gleaming white in the sombre landscape, has been the home of the Atholl family for ages past. Graham of Claverhouse died here after winning Killiecrankie, and Lord George Murray, the young Pretender's lieutenant, stayed here during the "Forty-five." Bemersyde (top), on the Tweed, was presented to Earl Haig after the Great War. Thomas the Rhymer had foretold that a Haig would always be there.
