LORD ROSEBERY'S SEAT AT DALMENY, AND ANCIENT BARNBOUGLE CASTLE

LORD ROSEBERY'S SEAT AT DALMENY, AND ANCIENT BARNBOUGLE CASTLE

Two miles out of the village of Dalmeny, Linlithgowshire, is Dalmeny Park (bottom), the residence of the Earl of Rosebery. The mansion itself is little more than a century old, but the Primrose family has been at Dalmeny since the middle of the seventeenth century In 1662 the first baronet of the name purchased Barnbougle Castle (top), near by, from the Moubrays, a famous clan in the Scottish wars of independence. When Dalmeny Castle was built, Barnbougle became derelict, but was restored by the present earl and is now used as a library.
