THE CORRIDOR IN CORTACHY CASTLE, AGE-LONG HOME OF THE AIRLIES

Cortachy Castle, on the South Esk, five miles north of Kirriemuir, in Forfarshire, has long been the home of the Earls of Airlie. In 1883 the place suffered from a serious fire, but has since been rebuilt and greatly added to, so that it is now one of the most imposing mansions in Scotland. The first castle arose here in the early sixteenth century. An Earl of Airlie gave his life in the South African War of 1900, and his monument stands near.
