DUNROBIN AND ABERGELDIE CASTLES, WITH THEIR ROYAL ASSOCIATIONS

DUNROBIN AND ABERGELDIE CASTLES, WITH THEIR ROYAL ASSOCIATIONS

From its high plateau on the Sutherlanclshire coast between Golspie and Brora, Dunrobin Castle (bottom) looks across the grey North Sea It is less than too years old, having been built by the Duke of Sutherland in 1847 in preparation for a visit by Queen Victoria but what it loses in antiquity is compensated by the sumptuousness of its furnishings In a moorland setting of wild beauty, Abergeldie Castle (top) near Braemar, has been leased as a royal residence since 1848. Its turreted square tower is old.
