LLANSAINTFFRAED CHURCHYARD. AND THE PRIORY CHURCH OF S. MARY, ABERGAVENNY

LLANSAINTFFRAED CHURCHYARD. AND THE PRIORY CHURCH OF S. MARY, ABERGAVENNY

From the hamlet of Bwlch the road descends swiftly to Llansaintffraed (bottom), whose churchyard looks across one of the fairest reaches of the Usk valley. In this churchyard lies buried Henry Vaughan, Welsh poet and mystic of the seventeenth century; the tombstone inscription is almost effaced, but there is a commemorative tablet to him in the church. The old priory church of S. Mary, Abergavenny (top), just left behind us, dates from the eleventh century, and contains a rich collection of tombs of dead Lords Marchers and others.
