THE APPROACH TO HAVERFORDWEST: NARBERTH IN LITTLE ENGLAND IN WALES

THE APPROACH TO HAVERFORDWEST: NARBERTH IN LITTLE ENGLAND IN WALES

Three miles before Haverfordwest one encounters the splendidly straight strip of road seen in the bottom photograph. The little bridge just beyond the first car is the start of a long hill up towards the town. At Narberth (top), eighteen miles from the sea at Milford, we are in the part of Pembrokeshire known as "Little England beyond Wales," which ancient description refers to an Anglo-French colony that was settled here in Norman times on lands seized from the Welsh.
