SCOTLAND'S NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL: ON THE CASTLE HILL AT EDINBURGH

SCOTLAND'S NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL: ON THE CASTLE HILL AT EDINBURGH

On the north side of Edinburgh Castle has been built of rubble and stone in the fashion of the castle itself the Shrine of Scotland's great National Memorial. The photograph is taken from the north-west, and shows the natural rock at the foot of the buttressed pile, rugged yet softened by a thin layer of green turf Much of this rock was uncovered when a multitude of unsightly buildings that once clustered round the peak was swept away; and its significance as a symbol of eternity was recognized.
