THE SHRINE AT EDINBURGH, HEART OF A GREAT MEMORIAL

THE SHRINE AT EDINBURGH, HEART OF A GREAT MEMORIAL

From the Gallery of Honour one enters the Shrine, the heart of this National Memorial. A figure of the Archangel Michael is seen suspended from the heavily ribbed vault, and on a rectangular pedestal below this is the steel casket given by the King and Queen. On the roll of honour which this contains are inscribed a hundred thousand names. The seven tall stained glass windows of the Shrine illustrate the birth of War (the killing of Abel), the defeat of War and its replacement by Peace and Praise.
