THE DRURY LANE OF SIR CHRISTOPHER WREN

THE DRURY LANE OF SIR CHRISTOPHER WREN

The Drury Lane Theatre of the Stuarts, imperishably associated with the name of Nell Gwynn, was burned down in 1671, and on its site Wren erected the classic building shown in this print of 1776. This was the theatre of David Garrick and of other great eighteenth-century players. It was in its turn destroyed by fire in 1809.
