GLENFINNAN, WHERE THE STANDARD WAS RAISED, AND LOCH DUICH, A PLACE OF EXILE

GLENFINNAN, WHERE THE STANDARD WAS RAISED, AND LOCH DUICH, A PLACE OF EXILE

Nothing would stay the impetuous prince from going forward with his project, and on August 19, 1745, the standard was unfurled at Glenfinnan on the shore of Loch Shiel by the famous Jacobite, the Marquess of Tullibardine. A high stone tower, crowned by a statue of the prince (bottom), marks the spot. After Culloden, he made his way northward into Ross-shire, and came to Loch Duich (top), where be lay hidden among the wild hills until Cumberland's systematic combing-out compelled him to go farther.
