BRIGHTON'S COLONNADE: FOLKESTONE'S MEMORIAL ON A ROAD OF PROUD MEMORIES

BRIGHTON'S COLONNADE: FOLKESTONE'S MEMORIAL ON A ROAD OF PROUD MEMORIES

In the Old Steine gardens, known to every visitor to Brighton, stands the colonnade (bottom) which this great south coast resort has erected in memory of its soldiers. Built on the north side of an artificial lake, the classical design gains importance and an added beauty from the fact that it is mirrored in the water. Its story is told on the central pillar. The memorial at Folkestone (top) stands on the road from the promenade to the harbour, by which so many passed on their way to the fields of France and Flanders.
