THE GRAND MONUMENT AT BARROW-IN-FURNESS; PRESTON AND ST. ANNE'S

THE GRAND MONUMENT AT BARROW-IN-FURNESS; PRESTON AND ST. ANNE'S

The great pylon with the panelled base at Barrow-in-Furness (bottom) blazons a promise: "They Shall Not Grow Old." It was erected by the Hematite Steel Company. Preston's memorial (top left) stands in the Market Square. Designed by Sir Gilbert Scott, R.A., with sculptures by Mr. Henry Pegram, R.A., this Cenotaph ranks high as an example of civic pride and enterprise. The impressive group fashioned in bronze around the pylon at St. Anne's-on-Sea (top right) gives this monument distinction among the memorials of seaside towns.
