CROSS, CENOTAPH AND SCULPTURE: SALTBURN, SWINDON, CHESTERFIELD AND GREAT MALVERN

CROSS, CENOTAPH AND SCULPTURE: SALTBURN, SWINDON, CHESTERFIELD AND GREAT MALVERN

Symbolical sculpture in relief woven into the face of the Cross at Saltburn-by-the-Sea (bottom left) has made a work of great artistic beauty of this memorial; but not less impressive is the Cenotaph at Swindon (bottom right), which has more architectural embellishment than most of its kind. The Cross at Chesterfield (top left), within the precincts of the old parish church, is a reminder of the greatest of all sacrifices. Great Malvern's memorial (top right) "To those who nobly served" is simple, but finely conceived.
