By the Grand Stan-case (top) admission is gained to the magnificent State Apartments. The entrance for the public is from a doorway opening on to the North Terrace On the stairs are suits of sixteenth and seventeenth century arms and armour. The "Throne Room" (bottom) is the Chapter Room of the Order of the Garter. On the upholstery of the chairs are the insignia of the Order, and these appeal also in the moulding of the ceiling.
