WHERE SCHOOLBOY SHAKESPEARE CREPT UNWILLINGLY TO SCHOOL

The Guild of the Holy Cross of Stratford-upon-Avon dates back to about the time of Edward I and was a religious and educational association. On the suppression of the guilds under Edward VI the buildings were granted eventually to the corporation. The chapel and Guild Hall adjoin, and the building also contains the schoolroom where Shakespeare is said to have worked.
