Scenes which John Bunyan knew at Elstow in Bedfordshire

A mile and a quarter south of Bedford lies the village of Elstow, near which, in 1628, John Bunyan was born. On reaching it we find, on the right hand, the cottage in which he lived after his marriage, though the little building (bottom right) has been considerably altered since. The church (bottom left) comprises part of the chancel and the nave of a convent of Benedictines. Facing the village green, on which Bunyan was enlightened spiritually, while playing tip-cat, stands the Moot Hall, a meeting-place of the Bunyan congregation.
