LITERARY SHRINES OF MICHAEL DRAYTON, JANE AUSTEN AND GEORGE MEREDITH

At Hartshill, Warwickshire, is the birthplace (top left) of Michael Drayton, a friend of Shakespeare's and author of some of the most charming of Elizabethan poems. Jane Austen moved to Winchester in 1817, a semi-invalid, to avail herself of the help of a famous doctor there. She had a lodging (top right) in College Street, and here she died on July 18. George Meredith was born February 12, 1828, at No. 73 High Street (bottom right) at Portsmouth. The other photograph shows his garden and chalet of Flint Cottage at Box Hill, Surrey.
