The top photograph shows a period in the training of the hawks known as "weathering," when they are left perched on stumps of wood called blocks with their hoods removed to accustom them to the open air after the confinement necessary during the early training The tower left photograph shows two falconers with their peregrine falcons, hooded and jessed, and the right-hand photograph shows a falcon being cast off. The owl, seen above, is perched in the open during the day, crows come to mob the bird, and hawks are then flown at them
