TWO ROUTES OUT OF LONDON TO JOIN THE PORTSMOUTH ROAD: BY FULHAM OR THE CLAPHAM ROAD

TWO ROUTES OUT OF LONDON TO JOIN THE PORTSMOUTH ROAD: BY FULHAM OR THE CLAPHAM ROAD

By taking the route via Brompton Road and Fulham out of London to join the Portsmouth Road on Putney Heath we leave Middlesex at Putney Bridge, and just before doing so see (top) the ancient church of Fulham, whose tower looks across the river to Putney church. Beside Fulham church is the Bishop's Park, which stretches along by the Thames for about half a mile west. But if we decide on the other route we shall cross the Thames at Westminster Bridge and proceed past Kennington (bottom left), down the Clapham Road to the Clock Tower at Stockwell. Here the Clapham Road passes to the left of the War Memorial in its green enclosure. On the corner of the Stockwell Road, to the left, is the Swan, and thence the road goes on towards the Plough.
