UP RODBOROUGH HILL ACROSS THE WILD SURREY COMMONS TOWARDS HINDHEAD

UP RODBOROUGH HILL ACROSS THE WILD SURREY COMMONS TOWARDS HINDHEAD

Two miles out of Guildford we pass Milford and enter the wildest part of Surrey, a region of commons covered in gorse and bracken and brambles. As we climb Rodborough Hill the view opens out, until at the summit, 321 feet above sea-level, which lies a little to the west of the road, we have a wonderful view to the north, including Godalming and the long hump of the Hog's Back. The road here, with its broad, smooth surface and curbs at either side, is typical of the new kind of way, black instead of white, with which the motors have covered England.
