NORMAN WEST FRONT OF LILLESHALL

NORMAN WEST FRONT OF LILLESHALL

Some three miles south of Newport, Shropshire, which is eleven-and-a-half west of Stafford, is Lilleshall Abbey, founded in 1145 for Augustincs. It lies on a by-road joining the Newport-Wellington arid Ncwport-Shifnal roads. Notice the beautiful symmetry of the Norman West door, which frames an equally graceful pointed arch at the East end.
