QUEEN ELIZABETH, QUEEN ANNE AND THE DUCHESS WHO WAS THE MODEL FOR BRITANNIA

QUEEN ELIZABETH, QUEEN ANNE AND THE DUCHESS WHO WAS THE MODEL FOR BRITANNIA

During the century after her death the figure of Queen Elizabeth (left), the face of which was probably taken from a death-mask, disintegrated, and the present effigy is a copy. This copy was, however, very carefully made, and we thus get a better idea of her than any contemporary portrait gives us. Queen Anne (centre) was the last sovereign of whom a wax effigy was made. She was the sister of her predecessor Mary. and the likeness is noticeable. The right-hand photograph shows us "La Belle Stuart," Frances Teresa, Duchess of Richmond.
