Pershore Abbey Church and Evesham new Bridge

Pershore Abbey Church and Evesham new Bridge

In the olden days the lands of Pershore Abbey held many domestic dwellings, but these have vanished. Only the Abbey Church (bottom) remains, largely intact as to its fine Early English choir and 14th-century tower. But Pershore has grown famous for its fruit. The photograph of Evesham (top) shows the new bridge over the River Avon carrying the arterial road to Worcester. It recalls an older and narrower bridge passed a few hundred yards before, that leads into Evesham itself. The town preserves the memory of Simon de Montfort.
